Universal

columns

Universal steel columns look very similar to universal beams (I beams) and there is also very little to separate the two in terms of their functionality. Universal columns (UCs, for short) are often called H beams, lintels or girders. Steel columns are required for any major structural work in the construction of buildings, but also make excellent load-bearing support beams. Columns hold loads across the entire vertical axis, whereas steel beams are often used to support loads across the whole length, horizontally.

PFC steel channels are known for their increased robustness and durability, much like steel beams and steel columns. There is also greater design flexibility by using PFC beams; they can be typically used as columns, lintels which sit above doors or floor support joists, due to their larger load-bearing profile. They are also frequently used alongside standard universal beams or universal columns and other structural steel products. Due to the minimal consumption when making PFC channel beams, they are often seen as the most environmentally-friendly, cost-effective type of structural steel.

Square hollow sections (SHS) and rectangular hollow sections (RHS) are two prime examples of steel tube and box products, with smooth edges and imperviousness to cracking or bending. Much like other hollow section steel (HSS) products, such as steel pipe, or circular hollow sections (CHS), these steel box sections are long, durable metal profiles with expansive cross-sections. The ends of these steel bars are open, offering more of an open tube rather than a solid steel bar.

Mild steel angle bars are lengths of steel which are ‘L’ shaped. The ‘legs’ of these steel flat bars can either be equal or unequal in terms of how it is angled. Angle steel bars are used for a wide variety of applications and are great for reinforcing large and small buildings due to their strength. Most of these bars are treated with corrosion-resistant coatings or primers.

Steel unequal angle bars have a great deal of tensile strength, much like equal angle steel bars. The only fundamental difference is that unequal angle bars have different side lengths that are much more noticeable. The length will generally range from bar to bar, but it’s quite common for customers buying steel to specify the lengths needed for each side of these mild steel bars. Many of these bars are treated with corrosion-resistant coatings or primers.

Mild steel flat sections combine the strength of structural steel, and due to its reduced carbon content, is more malleable, enough to the point that it won’t snap or break. As well as this increased malleability, flat bars are also highly recyclable and reusable. Flat steel plates and bars are easy to work with, and are great solutions in the construction of steel frame buildings, trailers, vehicle parts, industrial tools, support braces and much more. They can be easily cut, welded and drilled, and are easy to join, using steel welding processes or with fixings like screws, rivets and bolts.
